A little family history on the early death of, 

Grace.Melissa Brizzee White, age 31

1893 - 1924

     I looked in some of the letters and found one dated April 11th 1924. It was written by Esther Ann Catlin to my grandmother, Laura. It says, “Dearest Laura and All, This is not the first attempt I have made to tell you the heartbreaking news of the death of our little Grace, your sister, which occurred April 2nd but I hope you will forgive me for letting the time go by. I can’t seem to get heart to write. We went to Bisbee to the funeral. She died of Intestinal Flu which went to her heart”. The letter then goes on to tell how both Esther and Henry were sick with the flu but got out of bed to go to the funeral. She said that Viola was quarantined with Scarlet Fever at the time of Grace’s death. As I have read these letters they are full of illnesses that were sweeping the country at that time.
