My Parents!
Both my parent’s are a lot of fun to be with. Growing up, my dad loved sports, my mother didn’t, that’s all I’ll say about that. My father worked at SMUD for many years. I remember winter nights when the power would go out around the Sacramento area, my dad would get called to go to work. My mom would huddle us kids in front of the fireplace and tell us spooky story’s. Growing up was fun, we swam in river’s, camped, we were with family all the time. I loved the Sunday rides in the car, 4 kids in the back seat, and no seat belts in those days, we had the best time bothering each other. When my parent’s said “get your pillows”, we all knew we were going to the Drive Inn Movies, that was a lot of fun, the cars back then were huge, so there was a lot of room. Our family dog was a little black poodle named GiGi, she was loved by everyone but the Mail Man, poor guy! My parents always talked about moving to the country, but they never did. We would go visit my Great -Grandfather Harry McKellip’s and watch him with his horses, he was an amazing horse trainer. We always went to a park for family gatherings. Our families were large enough, so we had a baseball game going through the day. My dad spent a lot of time coaching little league baseball games, he was the Umpire. My Mom worked at the local elementary school in the kitchen, that school had the best lunches because she was the manager. My mom & dad loved going out dancing, they loved “Creedence Clearwater Rival”. When they went dancing my dad named it “Chuggling”. Our house was always full of music, my mom bought a large Spanish style stereo and I really cranked it up when they were gone. My mom loved to sew us girls pretty dresses & skirts, we always looked nice. I remember my mom ironing for hours. My parents always bought used cars, we had some really neat cars back then, today they are collector pieces. I love both my parents and thank them both for taking time out of their lives to care for me when I was ill with Hodgkin’s Disease, it wasn’t easy on them. They divorced it was a sad day for all of us. My dad still lives in California, my mom, in beautiful Oregon.
